‘Treating your pets like my own!’

Hi, I’m Helena! My lifelong passion for animals began during childhood trips to Kenya, watching wildlife in its natural habitat. Today, I have over 18 years of professional experience across veterinary care, charity rescue, and animal behaviour.

After completing my Level 3 in Animal Management, I spent years in a veterinary hospital as a Patient Care Assistant, gaining invaluable medical and handling experience. Driven by a deep interest in canine psychology, I launched my own business to focus on dog walking, pet sitting, and behavioural development. I'm currently expanding my expertise by studying to become a certified Professional Dog Trainer, and I regularly raise funds for charities like the RSPCA and The Born Free Foundation.

When I’m not caring for your pets, I’m an avid reader, writer, gamer, and clay shooter. I’m also deeply passionate about the environment, making my own eco-cleaning products and supporting cruelty-free living.

My Furry Family

I practice what I preach with a busy house full of rescued and beloved pets:

The Dogs: Bodhi and Scamp (Long-Haired Chihuahuas) and Oliver (Show Cocker Spaniel).

The Cat: Raphael, a handsome British Blue kitten.

The Rescues: Six RSPCA guinea pigs (Lilo, Stitch, Shadowheart, Karlach, Custard, and Lucky) and Arya, an RSPCA hamster.

My Philosophy: The "Up to Four" Controlled Walk

While a dozen dogs running in a field makes for a great social media video, small-group controlled walks are often far more beneficial for a dog's long-term behaviour and balance.

My "Sniffari" Treks last between 1.5 and 2.5 hours—priced identically to a 1-to-1 session. By capping groups at four, I ensure your dog socializes in a calm, structured environment without becoming overwhelmed. This smaller ratio allows me to maintain close supervision, practice proactive lead control, and prevent unwanted scavenging.

Most importantly, these treks mimic real-world scenarios. Your dog learns to walk politely both on and off-lead, translating seamlessly into a well-mannered, stress-free walking experience for you at the weekend.

Purposeful Secure Field Sessions

I do occasionally rent enclosed fields, but always with a specific purpose:

  • Introductory Mixers: To safely observe body language when introducing new dogs to a group.

  • Targeted Enrichment: To mix up the routine with focused agility games or scent work.

Occasional "Up to Five" Treks

For our more confident, social dogs, I occasionally host a larger group trek. Safety remains my absolute priority: these walks are strictly opt-in, and I am always accompanied by a second handler whom the dogs already know and trust.

More About Cat & ‘Small Furry’ Care

When it comes to my cat and small furry care, a "pop-in" visit is so much more than just a quick stop to top up food bowls and scoop litter trays. It is a dedicated window of companionship and mental stimulation tailored entirely to your pet's emotional well-being. Whether it is breaking up a lonely day for a high-energy dog with puzzle games and scent work, or giving a senior cat a gentle grooming session and a reassuring lap to curl up on, these visits are anchored in active enrichment. By focusing on social interaction, tactile comfort, and cognitive engagement, I ensure that your furry family members aren't just physically maintained while you're away, but are genuinely happy, content, entertained, and most importantly: Loved.

UPDATES

23/01/2026

Please note payment links will be sent out via email on the 28th of each month for my regular clients. Simply click where it says 'pay now' and you'll be able to pop your details in and send it through to me. This is through a safe third party like Stripe to protect both of us! (And also because bank transfers are a pain in the bum!) It will come under ‘Squarespace Payments’.

For Ad Hocs and random bookings, the payment link will be sent to you the day I have finished your booking. For overnight petsits, a link will be sent the day before you go away and needs to be paid before you go on your trip away in advance.

Please note payments need to be made within 2 days of sending out, ideally within 24 hours but i understand many are busy or at work in the day. Think of it like a supermarket, you wouldn't go there, buy your fruit and veg and a nice juicy steak and be like 'ahhh, ill pay for it later.. after ive eaten it.' Ha!

This really helps me with my finances and makes things a lot less stressful! Im a relatively cheap service compared to most so every penny counts to me so I can continue to provide affordable pet care for all.

(We have all accidentally paid someone late at some point, so if you genuinely do forget, I wont be too upset, just please do try! If it happens regularly though, we can have a chat and sort something out.)

Thanks so much <3

A VERY IMPORTANT Update from Me!

To all my wonderful human clients and four-legged friends,

I’m sharing a little update about how I’ll be running things going forward. Starting tomorrow, I am stepping away from Facebook and Instagram to take The North Yorkshire Furry Godmother completely "off the grid" socially!

I am incredibly lucky to have such an amazing, loyal group of regular clients. Because my schedule stays so wonderfully full, I want to redirect 100% of my energy away from scrolling and screen time, and put it right back where it matters most: spending uninterrupted, quality time with the pets I look after.

I also have found that all of my enquiries come from word of mouth, Rover & advertisements I have pinned up- almost none come from Facebook/Instagram! Social media can become incredibly addictive and waste so much time. My dream is to be an off the grid small business owner, and it IS possible!

What this means for you:

Nothing changes about the care your pups receive! In fact, it just means I’ll be even more focused on our walks, games of fetch, and adventures around North Yorkshire.

Instead of posting public updates here, I’ll be keeping in touch with you directly, privately, and personally.

How to reach me from tomorrow onwards:

WhatsApp / Phone: 07379 923811

Email: helenajaynegreetham@gmail.com

Website: www.theyorkshirefurrygodmother.co.uk

I will send pictures of your wonderful pets directly to you via Whatsapp!

Thank you all so much for your continuous support, trust, and for letting me hang out with your gorgeous pets every day. See you on the trails!

‘I cannot recommend Helena enough. Murphy absolutely adored her. She was so kind whilst looking after him. Her professionalism shone through, nothing was ever too much trouble. If I had an unexpected issue and had to work short notice, she would always help me out by having Murphy. You can truly tell she loves what she does. Murphy also gets on very well with Helena’s small dog, and they became best friends. I would still be using her today if I had not had to move away. Highly recommend.’

  • Thunder

    Thunder

‘I could not recommend this lovely lady highly enough. I was super stressed about having to leave my puddy cat. Normally he has only ever been looked after by family but after a recent house move this was no longer an option. It was obvious from the start that Helena takes her job seriously and has a genuine affinity with the animals. "Thunder Cat" can be a little aloof and we had recently lost his companion cat so I was extremely anxious about leaving him. However he took to Helena immediately, she spent time each day grooming, fussing and playing with him. I got regular updates and pictures. All instructions were followed exactly and she even bought him a licky matt and some toys. I am a qualified vet nurse and an extremely crazzzzzy cat lady, trust me when I say you won't find a better pet sitter. Thunder Cat loved Helena’

  • Finn

‘Helena was lovely. She arrived early and ensured Finn had his full hour walk. Thank you for taking care of him! :)’
